Crutch Cuddlers were designed and developed when my daughter broke her foot and ankle...at the same time! She was 13 years old and, after the initial two or three hours of the novelty of having a cast and crutches wore off, complained about the friction she was feeling not only under her arms, but also against her sides. I realized she needed some type of crutch cushion or crutch pad and I designed the first pair of Crutch Cuddlers over the next few days, then went to work sewing over the weekend. (She chose the pink fleece for her pair!) After putting the Crutch Cuddlers on her crutches, she was never bothered by friction or irritation again.
Crutch Cuddlers evolved over the next few months into what you see here. The Adult size (which fits crutch sizes from 4'6"-6'6") has two-inch thick foam padding. The Youth size (which fits crutch sizes from 4'-4'6") has one-inch thick foam padding. I used extra thick padding to provide more comfort and allow for slight compression. The padding is sewn onto an oval section of fleece, which is then sewn onto the Crutch Cuddler. This helps keep the padding in place to prevent the Cuddler from slipping. The Cuddlers are long - approximately 5-6" past the crutch pad - to help alleviate the friction that is felt against one's sides when using crutches. There is also elastic added, not only at the bottom of the Cuddler, but also just under the padding to provide extra protection and stability. Crutch Cuddlers go on and come off easily and are washable!
